Director's statement
Frame of mind is a film about the exploration of self-worth and the importance
of self-validation. During the third-year ‘breaking in process’, we came to the
realization that we were struggling with our own sense of self-worth, which was hindered by the fact that we placed so much importance on external sources of validation that we often forgot that it should come from within.
We felt it greatly important to further explore this concept through the film making process, coming to the realization that it’s an almost universal issue, faced by adolescents and young adults of various backgrounds. We found ourselves intrigued by the many ways in which a person, or in this case a character, could be led to feeling worthless and the ultimate resolution remaining the same – to seek worth within oneself.
Thereby, we chose to make a film, showcasing two different characters, from different backgrounds, in different situations, who were faced with the same problem. Our goal with doing so in an experimental format is to leave audiences asking themselves, “Does my worth emanate from within?”.
